Greg Zeschuk, BioWare chieftain, has revealed the combat system for The Old Republic have been built from scratch and won’t involve ”swinging through each other.”
Battles, like those between Jedi and Sith, will have melee exchanges that ”makes sense” and not just a lot of ugly sword swishing; lightsabers will contact each other.
”Without a doubt,” was Zeschuk reply to VG247, they asked if the combat system was all sparkly and new from the ground floor up. ”If you recall some very specific things from the gameplay video, it was choreographed.”
”One big difference, especially against the MMO space, is that typically everyone swings through each other. That’s the way it’s been done. It doesn’t look great for Star Wars,” explained the BioWare dev.
”Star Wars is choreographed, it’s elegant; it’s big, powerful moves and lightning bolts flashing, but in a way that makes sense visually and aesthetically. One of the goals we have it to create this choreographed type of combat that looks as though it could be taking place in a Star Wars movie.”
BioWare have managed to set tongues wagging in the MMO community despite most honestly believing that even they couldn’t really offer something new and fresh in a now saturated genre.
Those rascals have managed somehow to make Star Wars look imminently super cool again, although we have no release date or even a nudge or wink from BioWare yet.
