Despite the growing PSN catalogue of online games and with the announcement of Nintendo’s own WiiWare programme starting up soon, Chris Satchell isn’t shaken.
He lays his confidence in XNA’s ”right tools and distribution mechanisms” which help all manner of developers.
”I think we still get an amazing amount of interest. Normally we have way more interest than we kind of have publishing slots to put things in,” says Satchell.
”And when you think about the community and what we’re doing with distribution on XNA Game Studio, nobody is going to have that combo. I don’t think anybody has got that level of innovation integrated the way we have.”
Xbox LIVE Arcade has over 100 games in its archive but now Sony and even Nintendo plan of carving out their own corners of the currently Microsoft dominated space.
With online distribution coming more and more into the mainstream of the games industry, the little fish in the big pond get the chance to show the world what they can come up with.
Already there are successful indie developed games that have been snapped up by companies and let loose on the world, take Riff: Everyday Shooter from Queasy Games for example.
”We’ve really got the right tools and distribution mechanisms for that range of content, so I feel really confident about all parts of the ecosystem and I’m going to keep working to make sure we support them correctly,” he said.
