A Norwegian and a German game site have come under pressure from Atari over their obtained copies of the game.
The publisher insinuates that at least one of the sites conducted their review from an illegal copy and is threatening possible legal action, Kotaku reports.
The Norwegian site, GameReactor, gave the game a meagre 3/10 score which of course is likely the reason Atari has gotten so hot under the collar so quickly. You have to ask yourself if it had of been 8 or 9 out of 10, would they have been so thorough in their investigations?
The German site, 4Players, awards the game a 68% rating and is slapped with legal threats from the publishers lawyers accusing them of ”breaking the law and violating the rights of their client”. The site maintains that they got their copy from a ”trusted dealer”, possibly a videogame store manager somewhere.
Of course they could have both got ‘caught’ with their hands in the pirate cookie jar but Atari are coming off as the bad guys here in any case, especially when low scores are involved. Whether the publisher is justified or not their motives are made suspect by their obvious stake in the outcome.
Is there a dodgy side to this?
