Sony has said the recent report from users of Blu-ray trouble, like unreadable discs or game freezes, is not ”an issue with the firmware”. Users blame 3.01 for causing trouble.
Meanwhile Home now has ‘Universal Game Launching’ added with the release of v1.3. This means that certain supported titles can launch, and includes multiplayer options in Home.
The optional 3.01 firmware update for PlayStation 3 is being blamed by users for fudging their Blu-ray drives. Specifically some have reported them not reading discs at all or they cause game freezes when in play. Sony tells Eurogamer it’s ”not an issue with the firmware”.
They recommend sending in the consoles to Sony for repair, which if it’s out of warranty will set back gamers £128 in the UK. Throw in another £100 and you could almost pickup a new one. Have you experienced an oddly coincidental Blu-ray screw-up since 3.01?
PlayStation Home has been updated to v1.3 and with it comes the game launching function, new emotes and actions for avatars, more item types, the ability to preview in-store wares, and ”tons” of other improvements. Check out the new additions preview clip.
