Movie cinemas aren't in too good of shape as they used to be but Sony has an idea, and one they're going to test with Naughty Dog's latest Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
They will have the game playable in one of four US cinemas, which are equipped with Sony 4K digital cinema tech. Could be the "start of something", could be a "standard element".
"This is the first time we're doing it in a theatre. We think it's a start of something for us, and hope we can build this into a standard element in the movie-going experience," said Sony's Mike Fidler.
"Our goal in converting theatres to digital is to go beyond the traditional movie-going experience and focus on helping exhibitors find ways to fill seats," he added.
"Gaming will be an important part of that equation." 500 cinemas use Sony's higher resolution technology across the US. Participating exhibitors are in California, Illinois and Washington. The first night will be invitation-only with the second open to the public.
This Uncharted 2 cinema experience runs on October 5th and 6th. Could Sony really succeed in turning cinemas into high tech arcades of some sort? Would you go?
