Activision is super excited for Modern Warfare 2’s launch, they believe it’s got enough balls and substance to be the top ”entertainment property” of ‘09.
The Infinity Ward developed game is due this November, with brand manager Simon Wells saying the franchise goes from ”strength-to-strength” each year. Could it really conquer all?
”We want to propel this year’s title to be the biggest selling video game of all time. That may raise some eyebrows, but step back and look at the franchise’s trajectory through preceding launches, and this objective starts to look viable,” Wells says to MCV.
”We firmly believe we have the potential to be the No.1 entertainment property of the year. The reality for a franchise as large as Call of Duty is that we are competing directly with entertainment propositions outside of the video game space.”
I guess if anyone could pull it off then Infinity Ward is the best placed, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has sold over 10 million copies worldwide since its launch - the math is on their side.
