Lawsuits within the games industry are becoming ever more common now, especially when it comes to mega publisher Activision and developer disputes
They’re are suing Double Fine because they took Brutal Legend to EA for publishing, after Acti themselves deemed the project unworthy during the Vivendi merge. $15m is involved.
”Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it,” said Double Fine’s Tim Schaffer. ”Oh great, now Beyoncé is going to sue me too.”
Way back in February, you know the month that comes after January, Activision said it was believed to still be in negotiations over Brutal Legend and may sue Double Fine for their deal with Electronic Arts, to which an EA rep said it would ”be like a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy.” Ouch!
Seriously, is this not the sexiest lawsuit ever in the history of the videogames industry? We’ve got a jealous ex, millions of dollars, heavy metal rock and Jack Black!
Activision claims it still holds a valid publishing contract to the title and that they have sunk around $15 million into the games development. Apparently developer Double Fine missed a key deadline last year and wanted another nine months plus $7m more.
Hang in there Brutal Legend!
