Take-Two have signed a deal with developer Digital Extremes to work on BioShock 2’s multiplayer component, delivering a ”unique” experience.
The studio is no stranger to BioShock having worked some on the first. The online side intends to expand ”the origins of the Bioshock fiction.” It’s in fact a prequel to BioShock 2.
”The fans asked for a multiplayer experience and we answered,” said 2K Games’ Christoph Hartmann, reports GamesIndustry.biz.
”With Digital Extremes delivering a multiplayer experience for BioShock 2 that features all of the things that make BioShock unique, we’re holding ourselves to a high standard so that we can deliver the depth and variety that fans of the BioShock universe demand.”
The multiplayer addition to BioShock 2 is said to be ”a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the Bioshock fiction.” Players gain experience that can unlock new weapons and features as they fight around areas present in the original game.
Digital Extremes was the developer behind Dark Sector for Xbox 360 and PS3.
