Developer Runic planned a 30 day exclusivity period where the action-RPG and Diablo-like Torchlight would only sell on the official site, before migrating to platforms like Steam.
Things have changed. Runic say it’s important it becomes as ”widely available as possible” and so will be ”starting day one” on Steam. This first game from Runic is on sale October 27th.
”It’s important for us to make Torchlight as widely available as possible,” said Runic’s Max Schaefer. ”Steam is an enormous outlet that many players use exclusively–we’re big fans ourselves–so we are really happy that it will be on Steam starting day one.”
Torchlight is a small game itself but comes with community modding tools for users to start making their own crazy adventures and share them. The game is ”approximately 300MB” in size. A retail boxed version is expected ”early next year,” says the Runic FAQ.
Think you’ll be giving Torchlight a chance? Runic plan to work on the MMO next.
