German publisher Kalypso Media has secured the ”majority of licenses and assets” from the collapsed Ascaron Entertainment, and has big plans for them.
Veteran devs of the Sacred ARPG franchise have formed part of Kalypso’s new Gaming Minds developer, but the Sacred license is still with Ascaron UK ”until expiration.”
This means Gaming Minds now have free reign to work on DarkStar One, The Patrician, Port Royale and On the Ball if Kalypso give the nod - previously having belong to the now bankrupt Ascaron.
Though ”a few existing license agreements held by Ascaron UK will stay with the Ascaron until expiration,” Kalypso pointed out. Ascaron had been toiling over an add-on to Sacred 2 and a full sequel project. So far no specifics on what Gaming Minds are up to have been given.
”For Kalypso, this move is not just an expansion of our own studio capacities, but will also allow us greater independence in our games development,” they said.
