Cited as nowhere near the scale of staff cuts last year, Avalanche say they just needed to ”manage risks” which meant some redundancies.
Development on Just Cause 2 hasn’t been hampered by the decision, and will still be showcasing at E3 says publisher Eidos. The devs warn not to read too much into the cuts.
”It is a difficult business climate, but this is not nearly on the scale of the redundancies last year,” said CEO Christofer Sundberg of Avalanche, referring to Octobers staff massacre. 77 were struck from the payroll last year in a bid to recover from the loss of two publishing contracts.
”As any other company we need to manage risks and sometimes that unfortunately means that we have to give notice and lay off staff. It’s not more complicated than that,” he added.
The studios two other projects appear to be going well too with Emote’s The Hunter on track and their third title in development remaining a secret for now. Just Cause 2 is said to end a lot of the troubles the first game had, namely, large scale repetition.
