Jeffery Kaplan, former WoW director, has busted his vocal cords to deliver a 40 minute speech covering nine quest-related niggles for World of Warcraft.
From things like the ”Christmas Tree Effect”, mystery, gimmicks and more. Kaplan also admits he’s ”the a**hole” responsible for the infamous ‘Green Hills of Strangelthorn’ quests.
Some gamers just love the crazy lore Blizzard comes up with in their games but Kaplin isn’t so sure on that, speaking on one of the issues he says they need to stop trying to play Shakespeare. ”…we need to stop writing a f**king book in our game, because nobody wants to read it,” Kaplan candidly announced, reports Shacknews.
As for matter like collection quest mistakes he says they’re not ”broken, but lots of times we do a shitty job” of implementing them. ”If I have too many creatures in an area, it’s going to take me longer to get through the combat.”
”This is the worst quest in World of Warcraft,” he said, referring to the ‘Green Hills of Strangelthorn’ quests. This involved four separate ‘chapters’ and required the player to kill four different types of creature in the Strangelthorn Vale.
”I made it. It’s the Green Hills of Strangelthorn. Yeah, it teaches you to use the auction house. Or the cancellation page.” You b*stard Kaplan.
”So I’m the a**hole that wrote this quest. My philosophy was, I’m going to drop all these things around Stranglethorn, and it’s going to be a whole economy unto itself… It was horrible.”
Jeffery Kaplan now leads the development of Blizzard’s next MMO project which is being kept under strict PR lockdown.
