Its $100m budget is said to be getting much lighter, with attached director Len Wiseman no longer helming the chair. The studio wants a rewrite.
”…the studio has now cut the budget, going from a film that would have cost more than $100 million to one that will cost a good chunk less than that,” said an LA Times piece, reports OXM. The whole Locust invasion is being downgraded by studio executives.
The story is to be converted from a massive epic scale struggle between humanity and the Locust, written by ‘Wanted’ scribe Chris Morgan, to something much smaller and more straight forward. They obviously have little faith in the movie being any good.
Director Len Wiseman, of Underworld fame, has already moved onto a new project though he is still technically attached to the Gears of War project. Any chance of Kate Beckinsale starring in the flick has gone up in smoke, what with being his wife and all.
Will Gears of War ever make it to the screen? Bungie’s Halo will, finally, after having stalled so many times that fans had no more tears to cry. Who could play Marcus Fenix?
