It’s been almost one year since we checked out Stormgate’s early access release. In that time, Frost Giant Studios has kept pushing its vision forward, and now, it seems the 1.0 launch of its first campaign is upon us.
The studio has just announced Stormgate: Campaign One - Ashes of Earth will launch on August 5 as the full RTS game hits its 0.6 version and sets its sights on extra features and content. As far as we know, while Stormgate’s PvP and custom matches offerings are totally free, the full campaign episodes and bonus commanders will be sold as DLCs.
The Ashes of Earth story campaign focuses on the Vanguard faction and was “written by New York Times bestselling author Micky Neilson, with contributions from comics legend Marv Wolfman (Teen Titans) and Blizzard veteran Chris Metzen.” It also packs a voice cast which includes big names such as:
- Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Barbie)
- Tara Strong (The Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans)
- Matt Mercer (Overwatch 2, Critical Role)
- Rosanna Pansino (Nerdy Nummies YT series)
- RTS legends Bill Roper and Chris Metzen
On top of the Vanguard, players can expect to take control of the Infernal Host and Celestial Armada factions, which are already available to play in PvP and custom games even if their story campaigns are coming at a later date.
Much-requested features like 3-player co-op, rollback netcode, AI opponents, and a traditional map editor are part of the package, with the long-requested 3v3 ‘Team Mayhem’ online mode said to arrive in the near future.
Despite its rough edges when it first opened its doors, we found a lot to like in Stormgate, so here’s hoping Frost Giant Studios can continue to deliver on the complete vision and attract new players (while pleasing veterans) when Ashes of Earth’s 1.0 release drops on Steam.
