The writer says videogames have ”every bit the potential” of film and literature for ”exciting and emotionally charged” stories. He’s a ”perfect match”.
Crytek has invested enormous resources into Crysis 2 technically, building a whole new engine that scales across consoles and PC. For the narrative side they turned to Richard Morgan, who loves his sci-fi.
”Video games are one of the only things in my life I would qualify as a complete addiction,” said Morgan in the EA press release, reports VG247.
”The medium has every bit the potential for exciting and emotionally charged storytelling as literature and film, and I’m excited to explore this format on my first project in partnership with a world class developer like Crytek.” Crysis 2 takes place in New York.
”He has helped us take our ideas for Crysis 2 and transform them into a story that really engages the player in many new and exciting ways. His passion for his craft and for games is a perfect match for our team and we can’t wait for gamers to experience this collaboration,” added Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli.
Crysis 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this holiday. Everyone agrees it looks gorgeous so let’s all hope that Morgan and his fellow writers nailed the storytelling. Recently a debut trailer for the shooter sequel went live in New York’s Times Square.
