The team ”never went away” from them and ”haven’t actually wavered” where dedicated servers are concerned. Call of Duty: Black Ops ”a true PC title”.
”We never went away from dedicated servers,” said Treyarch’s PC boss, Cesar Stastny. ”We had dedicated servers in our last title, we had planned on dedicated servers for our subsequent title all along, so we haven’t actually wavered on that at all.”
Activision and Infinity Ward caused an uproar among their PC community base when Modern Warfare 2 ditched dedicated servers and only supported official hosts.
”We are a PC developer. I’ve been running a dedicated PC team since the beginning of this project. We had one last project. We are making a true PC title here and I think it’s a really important platform for our studio, and I’m also really thrilled that we can support the PC community as much as we can,” added Stastny.
Mod tools for Black Ops will be released at some point from Treyarch post-launch. Call of Duty: Black Ops releases on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and PC November 9th.
