Just FYI - the ”free weekend” that Ubisoft announced for R.U.S.E. is not, in fact, a BETA. Puzzling, isn’t it? Don’t worry, the truth is actually far simpler then you may think, and Mathieu Girard (who told me this) is just employing a ruse of his own.
”It’s not a Beta, and it’s not a Demo, it’s something in between,” he said.
Last week, Ubisoft released a teaser photo which had the Steam logo and the numbers “15-7” below it. Many simply assumed that this was going to be the second public Beta that the developers were thinking about providing.
However, Girard’s comment suggests otherwise, even though the evidence is there in the fact that you will be playing the game over Steam like you did last time. The truth simply lies in what a ‘Public Beta’ actually means.
The purpose of the last public beta was to gather feedback, to see how the game performed online, and was overall a part of the development process. This time around however, they’re simply letting you play the game: There will be no feedback, no analysis (maybe some tweaking) nothing that could possible shake them from their September release window.
A minor point, admittedly, as the only thing that actually matters is that we get to play R.U.S.E. again, and before its release too. Yay!
Ubisoft have recently released some notes regarding what has changed since the last beta, which you can view here, here and here. You can also watch this informative video below, which was just release today:
