PC unranked matches are ”pretty much on par” with consoles and you can adopt similar rule sets. There’s no matchmaking in Treyarch’s Black Ops.
”What we’re really trying to do on this title for PC is to give the PC community the same game the console guys are getting, but in a way that makes sense for PC,” Stastny said.
”You’ll be able to play unranked servers and not have a lot of different options as to how those games are run because they’re pretty much on par with what you get on the consoles. You play on unranked servers as well, and you can customise the way those games go.”
Activision has partnered with GameServers.com to exclusively provide dedicated servers for PC Call of Duty: Black Ops but these don’t come free. Monthly subscriptions exist for those who want to run their own - given full admin privileges.
Online modes can be tweaked to use specific customised rules like ”no perks, no killstreaks, shotguns only, snipers only, only headshot kills or one shot kills.” Check out the quick interview between PC lead Cesar Stastny and IGN below.
