Xbox Live’s January saw 2.3m concurrent users logged in, a new record high. Microsoft call it the ”biggest social network” with a TV.
Sony’s Jack Tretton said they’ve ”successfully established that we’re not just a disc-based powerhouse, but we’re also a digital powerhouse,” on his US PlayStation.Blog post.
”PlayStation Network experienced huge growth last year, marking its best revenue month in December – a 155 percent increase in sales from the previous year. More than 40 million of you all over the world are coming to PlayStation Network to access multimedia content and to enhance your social gaming experiences.”
These numbers are less transparent.
Microsoft say their paying Gold Live subscriber population “top 23 million, making it the biggest social network connected to the TV”, report Edge, whereas Sony don’t reveal their ‘active’ PlayStation Network traffic, like recent online gamers.
Sony has been mulling over how they can introduce subscriptions for PlayStation Network services, as they’ve noticed how much Microsoft mint Xbox Live. Do you have an account with either service, videogamer?
