It talks of a ”sequel to a major new IP” and mentions Dead Space and Dante’s Inferno shortly after. Dead Space 2 we already know about…
”Visceral Games is looking for an experienced Environment Artist for an existing action/adventure franchise. This is a major opportunity to contribute to a bold new franchise, heavily backed by the EA Games Label,” reads the job ad blurb on Gamasutra, spotted by superannuation.
”This project is the sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games, creators of Dead Space and Dante’s Inferno.”
”The Games Label at EA is 100% committed to this IP, and the IP into film, television, comics, graphic novels, action figures, and the web. The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre.”
Does this signal a second Dante’s Inferno, or just a late comer post for Dead Space 2 which is heavily in production? If it points to the former then it flies in the face of producer Jonathan Knight’s words in February, when he was dismissive of a second game.
”I’ve read the entire divine comedy and I’ve given it some thought, but there are no plans,” said Knight. We all know how fickle studios and publishers get though when a sequel is involved. Visceral are also believed to be making a digital Jack the Ripper title.
