Blizzard's RTS StarCraft II surpasses $100m in cost, claims report

While no specific source exists, reports agree that StarCraft II has been budget at over $100m by developer Blizzard, who appear unphased.

Previously Blizz has stated they ”don’t really have a budget,” and they’ll spend all they need to make it great. Analysts predict 5m sales its first year.

”There is no shortage of consumers for StarCraft,” Activision boss Bobby Kotick said. ”For a game that is more than ten years old, there’s millions of people still playing it.” StarCraft II’s first instalment arrives July 27th worldwide, and expectations are extremely high.

Some analysts believe it will clear 5m sold copies within a year, especially thanks to the ravenous popularity of the StarCraft franchise in South Korea.

Blizzard president Mike Morhaine said back in 2007: ”We don’t really have a budget; we’ll spend as much time and resources as we need to make this game great.” Are you looking forward to the return of StarCraft? It’s only taken a decade to get here.
