Frontier’s David Braben says they ”don’t comment on rumours,” and affirms their support for the veteran franchise. The Outsider to blame?
An Elite IV has been the dream of fans of the space trading simulator, but it suffers ‘Duke Nukem-itis’ in that it’s been ‘in development’ for the past 12 years. Allegedly those Frontier developers are super committed to the franchise still.
”We don’t comment on rumours,” Braben told Eurogamer. ”There have been recent staff changes on the project, and our commitment to the game is as strong as ever.”
Frontier has another game in the works called The Outsider of which there has been extremely little to trickle out of the RollerCoaster Tycoon studio. It’s about a US operative who’s framed for the murder of the US President no less.
Players then embark on a journey to either clear their name and punish those really responsible, or embrace their new underground terrorist status and cause mayhem in the pursuit of vengeance. It’s meant to have ground-breaking non-linear gameplay.
Sources say that it’s quite safe as The Outsider has entered full swing as a multi-platform project, and so hopefully we could hear or see something of it at E3? What crazy stunt would you be willing to pull if it meant Elite IV got back on track?
