Microsoft hasn’t just stripped out the three red lights to ‘kill’ the RROD. They’ve also taken steps with the coding to help safeguard hardware.
Many failures with Xbox 360 were heat related but now these new console versions will automatically shut off if temperatures get too high.
The power light on the console has been rigged to keep flashing after such a shutdown, which lets you know it hasn’t cooled off enough yet. It’s certainly much better than simply being stuck with RROD after the hardware has cooked itself.
In honour of the RROD I’m sure people will come up with a snazzy name for this brand new way of our Xbox 360s not letting us play games - but hey, again, at least afterward we get to boot the thing up once it’s cool without RMAing it’s sorry rear to Microsoft.
