It’s a ”common comment” he hears about games made in Europe. Inafune-san will oversee all titles to make sure it has the ”Capcom flavour”.
”It’s a common comment I hear that games created in Europe aren’t really Capcom games,” said Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune in a statement, reports Eurogamer. ”That games created in Japan are true Capcom games.”
”I want to put an end to that, basically saying that whether games are created in America or Japan or anywhere in the world, I will be the one overlooking it and so it will have that Capcom flavour that fans know and love.”
Inafune-san has been a key proponent of Capcom reaching out to more Western audiences by broadening their development tastes. Dead Rising 2 is one such major project that Blue Castle Games in Canada is handling.
It hasn’t gone without noticeable trouble as Bionic Commando and Dark Void haven’t past much of a lukewarm critical reception among western gamers.
”Those of you who know me, know how serious I am about trying to make global games on a global scale especially thinking about America and Europe when designing a lot of our titles,” said the veteran Japanese game maker. ”I’ve been pushing really hard for the last several years to try and gear our games in that direction.”
Dead Rising 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC August 31st in the US. It looks to be a promising sequel and could mark Capcom’s first truly successful western led title.
