A small band of ISA, including Sev and Rico, will face off against a mighty Helghan horde. It has ice levels, jetpacks, rapid fire rocket launchers…
”It’s the story of David battling Goliath, but this time you are David. That’s the big shift in going from Killzone 2 to Killzone 3,” Guerrilla’s Hermen Hulst explained to GamePro, reports Eurogamer. Killzone 2 had the ISA launch a massive invasion.
Now the Helghan war machine has caught its breath. Luckily we’ve got loads of new gizmos to play with like jetpacks with mounted guns on them, which are surprisingly agile claims the magazine. Enemies have them too and go up in pretty explosions.
One mission has the player traversing an ice level as they work to infiltrate and extract a prisoner from a Helghan weapons lab. Another, called Frozen Shore, gives us control of a dropship (the ones from KZ2’s intro) as we have an on-rails chain-gun sequence.
3D is entirely optional and you’ll of course need glasses for it to work, and it’s best to sit perfectly in the center point of the screen to enjoy the effects.
Guerrilla will also explore more lore behind the Helghast and how they’ve come to hate us so much. ”Although the Helghast are physically still human, they consider themselves superior to the human race in terms of society and culture,” said Hulst.
”They possess a mentality that’s similar to how the Nazis viewed those not part of the Aryan bloodline. Helghast look down on humans as weak, lying and spineless. In Killzone 3, we show that even the Helghast have some humanity left in them.”
Killzone 3 releases exclusively on PS3 with no release date yet.
