They want to ”really aggressively experiment” right now but not with Oddworld’s IP. They’ll spare it the ordeal of the games industry ”shakeup”.
”There’s a lot of things on the shelf right now,” Lanning told G4TV when asked about the new Oddworld. The climate of the industry itself has put off the creators from releasing the latest Oddworld instalment; they’d rather wait till it calms down.
”We had a few on the fire, and they’re still on the shelf…there’s a lot of shakeup going on and in that turmoil, we didn’t really want to put the Oddworld brand out there in the middle of it, so we’re working on some other things that we’ll be announcing shortly.”
”We want to really aggressively experiment at this time, and we didn’t want to really experiment aggressively with that brand,” added Lanning. So what then are they going to be working on to satisfy our gamer cravings? He won’t say…
”What we’re working on now is more of a platform issue, not an IP. I can’t go into much more description than that.” Platform? Is Lanning interested in ‘aggressively experimenting’ with the likes of Natal and Move? Something all-new in mind?
Cheer up because The Oddbox is scheduled to hit Steam this year, featuring all four of the Xbox Oddworld games for us PC gamers to gorge ourselves on. The new Oddworld was said to be almost like a CGI movie in the looks department - shame it’s shelved.
Hopefully developer Oddworld Inhabitants will pleasantly surprise us.
