QuakeCon 2011 held the news that the source code would be set free after Rage’s release in October. It’ll allow player mods to be stand alone games in their own right.
It will make it much easier for fans to develop their own little game tweaks and fixes too, or even have a bash at some major gameplay overhauling of the hellish corridor shooter from id.
”DOOM 3 source is packaged and tested, we are waiting on final lawyer clearance for release,” twittered John Carmack. Hopefully id are still very busy tinkering with the latest update for Rage which is promised to soon support a greater array of graphics settings on PC, like forcing on higher resolution textures and effects.
Do you still play Doom 3, videogamer?
