Already Stardock has Civ IV mod maker Derek ‘Kael’ Paxton overseeing the troubled turn-based game. Stardock have also hired fantasy author Dave Stern.
Shafer will be lending his assistance with Elemental: War of Magic’s development as Paxton continues to lead the team. The game has been heavily criticised for being a ‘glorified beta’ and very subpar the usual quality Stardock Games are lauded for.
Stardock boss Brad Wardell has stepped away as Elemental’s lead and instead takes the role of executive producer where he continues to help refine the game AI. Jon Shafer will also be leading his own team at the studio working another game he revealed.
The studio has also snagged fantasy author Dave Stern to ”oversee heavy lore implementation into all Stardock game projects.” Stern was responsible for the Hiergamenon lore book created for Elemental: War of Magic.
”Although Stardock is known for delivering incredibly detailed strategy gameplay, one of the things we felt was weak in Elemental: War of Magic was how little the world’s fantasy lore came through in the game,” said Wardell.
”Going forward, we look to make sure that our games deliver both solid game mechanics as well as a consistent and interesting world to play in.” A colossal patch hit December 15th for Elemental including a huge list of changes implemented by Paxton.
