The goal of turning Dungeons & Dragons' Neverwinter series into an online co-op RPG over at Cryptic Studios has been dropped, as it will become an MMO. All the game's content will be completely free, with micro-transactions only for consumables, vanity pets and cosmetic gear. It's been delayed until late 2012. The studio and their new boss seem to be uninterested in locking away parts of the Neverwinter game as premium only content, and instead will only charge for vanity items or consumables offering a boost to health or experience. This new full MMO will work on a modified engine that Star Trek Online and Champions Online uses. It will feature twitch skill combat in the game similar to Nexon's Vindictus, reveals Cryptic. We'll have to wait for more details about this new F2P MMO. Were you excited about Cryptic's Neverwinter? Does this new direction for the project give you cause for concern, or perhaps it has made you more intrigued? |
