A sequel requires a "big idea" and it's "what we're working on," said Gibeau. DICE created the all-new Frostbite 2 engine for Battlefield 3... and for Mirror's Edge 2?
"We haven't killed Mirror's Edge," EA Games' Frank Gibeau declared to GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley at E3 this week. The title didn't sell well when it released and that was blamed on being a new IP and getting crushed in the holiday slate of bigger names.
"We're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way. We love that franchise, the DICE guys really created something special the first time around. You've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one, and that's what we're working on," he added.
Will Frostbite 2 have a role to play in another Mirror's Edge? The tech engine supports highly destructible environments which have become a must for the Battlefield series.
"You'll see that combination, I'm sure," teased Gibeau, talking about the new DICE tech and a sequel. EA has always maintained that Mirror's Edge is important to them, especially as it was a first-person action title with emphasis on traversing levels, not combat.
Would you welcome a second Mirror's Edge powered by Frostbite 2?
