The NPD figures are in for US videogame sales, and according to Gamasutra, the industry failed to meet analyst expectations. Videogame software sales were up 3% from last year’s October sales, far less than Wedbush Securities prediction of 14% and Sterne Agee’s of 10-15%.
According to the NPD, the top 10 best-selling retail games in the United States for October, 2011 were as follows:

Seven of the top ten games were new releases, including top selling Battlefield 3, Batman: Arkham City, NBA 2K12, Rage, Just Dance 3, Dark Souls and Forza Motorsport 4.
As far as console sales, the Xbox 360 was the top-selling console in October, selling 393,000 units, which represents a 21% increase over October 2010 sales. Sony did not reveal any sales figures.
