Microsoft doesn’t support free DLC, but Twisted Pixel is using micro-updates called ”Title Managed Storage” to allow them to take levels from the game and apply new rules and content in the form of Xbox Live community challenges, with leaderboards to boot.
”From time to time, we will be awarding real prizes and other fun stuff to the top finishers, and sometimes random players, from the Challenge’s leaderboards,” explained marketing director Jay Stuckwisch. ”We are finding it harder and harder to ‘one up’ ourselves with new ways of giving away free stuff to people who buy our games, but TMS has opened an exciting new door for us.”
Fans of Super Meat Boy are already familiar with this, as that game employed the same sort of challenge DLC.
The Challanges aren’t the only free giveaway; Twisted Pixel is giving the music soundtrack away on the official site as well. Check it out here.
