During Episode 48 of the Steamcast podcast, Newell replied to a question that if there were a remake of the game from 1998, if the cut content would be restored, ”No, I think we’d just invent new stuff. I mean, I think we’re much better game designers and developers than we were back then. It’d be fun to go back and do a remake.”
Newell then clarified that Valve doesn’t like to delve into their own past, “There’s an unlimited amount of opportunities. I think that we would try and move forward. You know, it’s fun to think about that stuff but almost always you’re better moving forward than you are looking back.”
Newell’s coworker Erik Johnson said: “It makes me laughs just thinking about this…. (if we made a remake) the Stukabat still wouldn’t make it (in)”.
Looks like we’ll have to patiently wait for Black Mesa Source to finally be completed, instead.
