I’m making a note here: huge success. The original Portal has sold 4M units on PC, and that’s not including the digital distribution (read as: Steam) sales.
For a game that started as an experimental title called Narbacular Drop, that’s quite a feat. Perhaps the biggest credit goes to writers Erik Wolpaw and Chet Faliszek who turned what could have been a mildly interesting puzzle game into a savage satire on technological excess, as well as Jonathan Coulton for his iconic song “Still Alive”.
