Markus ‘Notch’ Persson has included something in the 1.7 Minecraft update that wasn’t expected til much later in the development cycle: working pistons.

However, the truly major addition, Adventure mode, will not be available til version 1.8, which Persson admits won’t be for a long while. The Adventure mode promises to reward exploration and combat.
