Ron Gilbert teases new game with concept art, "a game that needed to be made"

Monkey Island co-creator Ron Gilbert is working with Double Fine’s Tim Schafer on an unannounced title that ”predates Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island” ideas he had.

The idea for this game has been in Gilbert’s head a ”long, long, long time.” He can’t share anymore for the time being but ”more will follow later.” Two concept artworks were posted.

Double Fine has developed Costume Quest, Stacking, Once Upon a Monster and Iron Brigade while Ron Gilbert recently helped create DeathSpank with Hothead Games.

”I’m so excited,” declared Gilbert. ”This is an idea that has been in my head for a long, long, long time. It predates Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island. It’s a game that needed to be made.”
