Capcom is defending its decision to include premium downloadable content on disc for Street Fighter X Tekken, claiming there’s no difference between DLC that’s already been installed on disc and DLC that has to be downloaded post-launch.
The publisher claims that it chose that method because it is more ”efficient” and provides ”flexible” gameplay.
In a statement, Capcom insisted, ”At Capcom, we value our customers and make every effort to resolve customer complaints. SFxT has an enormous amount of content, fully developed and available for play and enjoyment immediately on-disc. Given the 38 characters available for full play, as well as multiple play modes, SFxT provides great value for all players from day one.
“While Capcom is sorry that some of its fans are not happy about the chosen method of delivery for the DLC, we believe that this method will provide more flexible and efficient gameplay throughout the game’s lifecycle.
“There is effectively no distinction between the DLC being ‘locked’ behind the disc and available for unlocking at a later date, or being available through a full download at a later date, other than delivery mechanism.”
The on-disc DLC was discovered on the Xbox 360 version by hackers, revealing the content which Capcom announced would cost 1600 Microsoft Points (£20 or $20 USD). Capcom threatened banning gamers who unlocked the content without paying for it.
Gamers claim the distinction is that on-disc content indicates a premeditated attempt by Capcom to get gamers to pay more for content that was already developed, essentially cutting a part out of a game with the intent of making players pay extra to have the full experience.
