Call of Duty: Elite has been wildly successful, despite early grumblings that Elite was an attempt to monetize online gameplay by Activision. Rather, Elite has turned out to be a glorified Season Pass for downloadable content, with a few more bonuses for subscribing. As it is, Elite has over 1.5M premium members.
In an earnings call today, Activision has revealed that the publisher is preparing a “2.0” launch for the next Call of Duty title later this year, presumably to coincide with the final downloadable content release.
Call of Duty: Elite costs $50 for a year, granting its users early access to DLC (whose cost is covered by the membership), as well as social sorting features and clan support. Activision has also announced new Elite features coming in the next month, but wouldn’t elaborate on it.
