Sony has suffered an annual loss of ¥456.7 billion ($5.74 billion) in comparison to the ¥259.6 billion loss last year, with PS3 sales continuing to dwindle.
For Q4 FY2012, a ¥255 billion yen ($3.2 billion) loss was reported.
PlayStation-related business falls into The Consumer Products and Services division, and has made a ¥229.8 billion ($2.8 billion) loss compared to the ¥10.8 billion profit from last year.Sales were also down by 18.5% to ¥3.13 trillion ($38.2 billion) within all parts of the CPS group. Lower sales of PS2 and PS3′s price-cut last August has made a huge impact here.
Worldwide PS3 hardware sales are down from 13.9 million to 14.3 million in 2011. PSP sales are also down from 6.8 million to 8 million, while PS2 sales are down 4.1 million from the same period in 2011.
On a brighter note, software sales for PS3 are up, with 156.6 million units sold worldwide, compared to 147.9 million last year.
PSP is down to 32.2 million units from 46.6 million units in FY2011 and PS2 is down at 7.9 million units from 16.4 million units.
Vita sales haven’t been reported as of yet, but Sony expect combined sales of 16 million worldwide for Vita and PSP in FY2013.
