Angry Birds movie confirmed, coming in 2016

Rovio has officially announced that an Angry Birds movie is in development, and will be hitting movie screens in 2016. The film is being produced and distributed by a new motion picture department of the publisher, Rovio Entertainment.

Despicable Me producer John Cohen has signed on to the project, as has Iron Man producer and former Marvel Studios chairman David Maisel, who will be executive producing.

Angry Birds debuted in 2009 and has seen a whopping 1 billion downloads across all platforms. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone cares about Angry Birds enough to go see a movie about them in four years.
