Paramount Pictures has announced that Namco Bandai will be co-publishing the Star Trek game based on the JJ Abrams film reboot. The game has also been delayed until 2013, but not because of any issues with development, but because the major motion picture release of Star Trek 2 has been pushed to next year. The game is intended as a cross-promotional tie-in to the film.
Paramount hopes that Namco-Bandai’s experience will help market the game to a wider audience.
“With our Namco-Bandai partners leading the distribution effort, we are confident that we will meet an overwhelming demand to get this exciting console experience into the hands of gamers and Star Trek fans worldwide”, commented Paramount Pictures executive vice president of worldwide marketing LeeAnne Stables.
Star Trek is being developed by Digital Extremes, which is best known for the original Unreal Tournament and the recently released Darkness II. The game’s story is also being written by BAFTA award winner and God of War writer Marianne Krawczyk in collaboration with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, writers and producers for the upcoming Star Trek film.
Strategy Informer previewed the game during last year’s E3, and came away impressed. Check out the preview here.
