Sony’s latest tech toy, the 4K resolution television, will be pushed hard by the company, much like it attempted with its 3D televisions. The centerpiece of this new line of TVs is the 80-inch XBR LED television set that supports the resolution.
The company will reportedly be installing 4K Blu-ray players in their next console, the unannounced PlayStation 4. It’s also possible that Sony will sacrifice frame-rate to have games that can play 4K resolution as well.
Will 4K movies and games incentivize consumers to upgrade their current HDTVs to 4K? It remains to be seen. PlayStation 3’s touted 3D failed to sell PS3’s or 3D TV’s, so it remains to be seen.
