The Oban chip reportedly is a 32nm processor that incorporates a PowerPC CPU and an ATI Southern Islands GPU, which would give lie to another rumor that claimed the next-gen console would feature a x86 compatible CPU, made impossible due to licensing agreements.
Another tech site, SemiAccurate, claims that their source at Microsoft was incensed to hear of the leak of the Oban, and retorted, “Who the f— told you that? I am going to f—ing rip someone’s head off”. The site also reported that Microsoft had ordered over 10,000 wafers for production, which they surmise are for the dev kits that the company will be sending out to developers.
This also makes a 2012 release for the next generation of console highly unlikely; the still-unnamed Xbox console would most likely have a 2013 launch, probably during the holidays.
