So far only imageboards have been teased to gamers for Zwei, but Mikami-san says the team are”extremely confident” of the graphics although they can’t ”recreate the same quality”.
No actual in-game shots of the title have been released. The new developer can deliver a look to the game world featuring an ”atmosphere that is close” to the imageboards.
”At present, we’ve at last cleared the initial phase. Regarding art creation, we’re already getting a very good atmosphere. We’re extremely confident about the graphics this time,” Shinji Mikami told Famtisu magazine.
”Of course, we can’t recreate the same quality as shown in these image boards, but we can deliver game screens with atmosphere that is close to this. There are still mountains of inadequate areas, though, so we’ll have to work with the designers on brushing these up.”
Planning for Zwei first began at the end of 2010, with Mikami-san and his team then going through a ‘cooling off period’ over New Years so they could approach their ideas critically. The name is purely its codename and not the final title. It’s the German word for the number two, but that has no relation. ”It just sounds cool,” he said.
Zwei will be a survival horror experience. That type of game to Mikami -san isn’t just about scaring the player but finding the fine balance between spooking them and the feeling of accomplishment you can get by overcoming that fear, and the power that strength grants you as a player.
He plans for his new studio’s first project to be a ”pure survival horror,” utilising everything he knows of the genre. There’s no official announcement for platforms but HD consoles will be seeing a release, Shinji Mikami expects.
