Breaking news: Tom Clancy dead at 66 [UPDATE]

Multiple sources are reporting that famed tech author Tom Clancy, whose novels have been the basis of numerous videogames published by Ubisoft, including such popular games as Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon, has passed away in Baltimore, MD at the age of 66.

The cause of death is not immediately known.

Tom Clancy’s The Division will be the next major title released under his name. His upcoming novel Command Authority will be published in December.

[UPDATE: Ubisoft has released a statement, promising to “carry on the legacy” of Clancy’s work.

The publisher wrote on Facebook, ”We are saddened to learn of Tom Clancy’s passing and our condolences go out to his family. Tom Clancy was an extraordinary author with a gift for creating detailed, engrossing fictional stories that captivated audiences around the world.

“The teams at Ubisoft, especially at the Red Storm studio, are incredibly grateful to have collaborated with and learned from him, and we are humbled by the opportunity to carry on part of his legacy through our properties that bear his name.”]
