Markus ‘Notch’ Persson was once ushered into the Valve workplace for a friendly chat with Gabe Newell as Minecraft neared beta, and found himself being interviewed for a position at the company.
Notch answered ”politely but firmly, no” to joining the Valve family. He explains it was his hardest decision but that Minecraft was ”maybe my chance to create a Valve”.
”Somehow, I felt that Minecraft was maybe my chance to create a Valve, rather than work at Valve,” recalled Markus ‘Notch’ Persson. Minecraft has sold over 33 million copies.
This revelation came from the book Minecraft: The Unlikely Tale of Markus ‘Notch’ Persson and the Game that Changed Everything. Today Minecraft dominates the PC platform but is also expanding on Xbox One, PS4, PS3 and Vita in the future. Notch’s company Mojang continues to develop new features for Minecraft, like horses and stained glass!
