Oxide Games has announced that the studio is working on a new gaming engine for 64-bit PCs, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The new engine is called Nitrous, and supports Simultaneous Work and Rendering Model (SWARM), which co-founder Tim Kipp developed.
Representatives at Intel, Nvidia and AMD all expressed enthusiasm for the new engine, as did Stardock. Intel in particular noted, ”Their tasking system shows near-linear scaling across Intel’s high-end desktop PCs, which translates into players being able to control an unprecedented 10,000 interactive units in their engine.”
Stardock also noted, ”(E)xpect the world to have visuals comparable to high-end first person shooters while still expecting hundreds or thousands of units, buildings, and other elements on screen at the same time.”
Stay tuned for more info about the Nitrous engine as it comes.
