EA has confirmed DICE and Visceral working on Star Wars, however the position at EA Canada may in fact be joint as ”multi-site development” experience is wanted.
This would be an indirect confirmation then that Visceral is working on an open world action title set within the Star Wars universe, as DICE are busy with Battlefront’s revival.
A job post for an Animation Director from last month revealed EA Canada now count Star Wars under their development belt, alongside Madden, FIFA, The Sims, Need for Speed, Dead Space and Battlefield. A recruiter highlighting the position of a Lead Combat Designer at EA Canada said it was the ”Best job title EVER!” because of it being ”for Star Wars”.
Dead Space developer Visceral Games was previously known as EA Redwood Shores. So far no open world game has made it out into the world for Star Wars with LucasArts’ Star Wars 1313 close but ultimately canned. Avalanche Studios, creator of Just Cause, almost had a deal in place to tackle the challenge once.
EA has previously boasted their efforts won’t be movie-to-game adaptations but original creations.
