Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that Mortal Kombat X, the next installment in the long-running fighting series, will be coming to PC and consoles in 2015.
As well as confirming that the game will be coming to E3 this year, Warner Bros. and developer NetherRealm Studios have released a non-gameplay trailer featuring classic characters Scorpion and Sub-Zero scrapping in a forest. It ends quite badly for one of them.
The developers are promising a ”persistent online contest” which will set players across the world against each other (isn’t that just fancy terminology for “there will be multiplayer?”) and, for the first time, alternative versions of each character to choose from. These different versions will impact ”both strategy and fighting style.” Apparently there’s going to be some all-new characters too.
“Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilise the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet,” said Ed Boon original co-creator of the series, and Creative Director for NetherRealm Studios. “The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.”
We’ll find out more about Mortal Kombat X at E3 later this month. Gruesome fatalities and next-gen technology? Someone’s going to be trying to ban this game as soon as it comes out.
