Blizzard’s fantasy hack and slash Diablo 3 has sold an impressive 20 million plus copies in the two years since its launch.
That figure was revealed during Activision-Blizzard’s second quarter earnings call yesterday, during which the company also revealed World of Warcraft subscriptions have dropped to the still pretty healthy level of 6.8 million.
Considering WoW came out back in 2004 that’s pretty impressive, even if it is down 800,000 from less than three months ago. Activision-Blizzard described the decline as being “disproportionately concentrated in the East”, and pointed out that things would likely pick up later this year when new expansion Warlords of Draenor drops. The release date for which is to be revealed next week.
Meanwhile, Diablo 3 has kept on chugging away, and feels a little more like its old self now it’s rid of that unnecessary auction house and the updates are beginning to pile in. Those figure make it easily the best-selling PC game in North America and Europe.
